Interviewed by a Local Newspaperman

Few days ago, I was interviewed by a journalist from Radar Malang because I scored the best NUN in Malang. He tried to find me at school but of course I wasn’t there since I didn’t have any plan that day. So we decided to meet me at my house.
I must say it was a weird and awkward situation. He didn’t seem to be one hundred percent. I didn’t know what to say and he didn’t know what to ask. Also, he kept repeating the same question over and over again. Neither of us was excited about it, especially him of course. I bet he wasn’t interested to the story of my life. Not that I have an interesting life but he shouldn’t make it that obvious.

I still remember some of his questions which I didn’t answer very clearly:

“Kenapa kok hobi mbaca? Emang gak buang-buang waktu?”

Well, I thought that’s the point of having a hobby. In order to kill time, it’s better to do something you love, which is your hobby, rather than wasting your time by daydreaming. But instead, I answered, “yaa, membaca kan membuka wawasan dan mengembangkan imajinasi. Sapa tau ntar kalo dah bsar bisa jadi penulis.”

To my surprise, he asked, “Emang kamu cita-citanya pengen jadi apa?”

Err, actually I haven’t thought about it yet, I just live my life and let everything fall in to place. Of course I didn’t answer it like that. This is my real answer, “pengen jadi akuntan atau kerja di Bank BI.”

“Oooo… Sejak kapan pengen jadi akuntan?”

Gosh! Seriously?? Did he know I lied? Well, umm, let see, maybe since I got accepted in UI?? Yes, you’ve guessed it, that’s not what I said to him, this was, “hmm, gatau juga ya.” =_____=

“Kalo gitu kenapa gak ngambil IPS aja di SMA?”

Well, my dad said that if I take science program, I can explore myself and develop my logic ability. At least that’s what came up to my mind. But I answered, “yaa, takutnya ntar cita-cita say berubah pengen jadi dokter atau apa, kan kalo dari IPS susah mau ngambil IPA.” That wasn't very convincing, I know.

“oia, siapa tadi nama Ayahmu?” “Gurnito. Gurnnniitoo” I was a bit worried that he will write it as Gurmito.
After a long awkward interview—so awkward that he told me I was a quite girl—it was finally time for him to go home. Before that he took a picture of me, which was very disturbing and inconvenient because he took it without giving me a chance to pose.
Luckily I had the chance to show him an article about me in Malang Pos. it was written there that I got accepted in UI. So he asked me, “Kamu keterima di Akuntansi UI? Sesuai cita-cita dong?” ya think?? Well, I just smiled to him.
The next day, I bought 2 Jawa Pos and went straight for the Radar Malang. As I expected, the picture was horrible. But to my surprise, they changed my name to Estri, my father was GURITNO, and there was a quote which I have never said before.
It wasn’t the first time Radar Malang did such mistakes. The day before, they mentioned that the runner up and second runner up of best NUN in Malang was from SMA1 and SMA4, which was totally wrong. The top three of Malang’s best NUN are all come from SMA3 and to be more specific, all from XII-IPA7. How annoying is that! An information this important should be checked to many many person or instance before they published it.
Well, the bottom line is that I may not have an interesting life. But at least I’m happy with it, as a matter of fact; I’m satisfied with my too-normal-life. Special thanks to Radar Malang and Malang Pos for giving me the experience to be interviewed. Keep up the good work
